Celebrity deaths 2023 – all the stars who passed away

IT MAY not be January, but unfortunately the world has already lost some cherished celebrities.
We’re taking the time to honor some of the stars who have sadly passed away so far in 2023.
Which celebrities died in 2023?
Lloyd Morrisett

The co-creator of the famous children’s television show Sesame Street Lloyd Morrisett died on January 24, 2023 at the age of 93.
He co-founded the Children’s Television Workshop – later renamed the Sesame Workshop – who confirmed the news of his death in a tweet.
Joan Ganz Cooney, Sesame Street co-founder and close friend, released a statement.
“Without Lloyd Morrisett, there would be no Sesame Street. He was the first to come up with the idea of using television to teach preschoolers basic skills like letters and numbers,” Cooney said.
Patrizi Billio

Former Crystal Palace and AC Milan player Patrizio Billio has died aged 48.
The midfielder joined Selhurst Park in the late 1990s during a long career which saw him play for many clubs across Europe.
Billio also played for Scottish clubs Dundee and Aberdeen in the early 2000s.
He retired in 2010 and returned to AC Milan to coach their academy team in Kuwait.
David Crosby

David Crosby, founding member of influential rock groups The Byrds and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, died on January 18, 2023 at the age of 81.
His former music partner Graham Nash shared a tribute on social media.
He wrote: “It is with deep and deep sadness that I learn of the passing of my friend David Crosby.
“I know people tend to focus on how explosive our relationship was at times, but what David and I always cared about more than anything else was the sheer joy of the music we created together, the sound we discovered together and the deep friendship we shared over all the many long years.”
Jay Briscoe

Wrestling star Jay Briscoe died on January 17, 2023 at the age of 38.
Ring of Honor and All Elite Wrestling Promotions owner Tony Khan confirmed the death of Briscoe, real name Jamin Pugh.
Jay reportedly died in a car accident in Delaware, USA.
Rene Geyer

Soul singer Renee Geyer died on January 17, 2023 at the age of 69.
The Australian musician, who rose to fame in the 1970s, died after complications following hip surgery.
Renee, whose illustrious career spanned more than five decades, was the first woman to be inducted into the Music Victoria Hall of Fame.
Her devastated family described the talented star as a “force of nature” when confirming her death.
They said: “It is with great sadness that we announce that Renee Geyer has passed away following hip replacement surgery.
“It was discovered at the hospital that Renee also had inoperable lung cancer.
“She was not in pain and died peacefully surrounded by her family and friends. Of course we are all devastated.”
Gina Lollobrigida

Italian icon Gina Lollobrigida – once dubbed the “most beautiful woman in the world” – died on January 16, 2023 at the age of 95
The movie star was one of the most popular leading actresses in the so-called Golden Age of Hollywood in the 1950s and 1960s.
She was an icon who enjoyed a glittering film career before becoming a respected photographer and even entering politics.
Her biggest hits include films like Solomon and Sheba, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and a critically acclaimed performance in Bread, Love and Dreams.
Lisa Marie Presley

Lisa Marie Presley died at the age of 54 after suffering cardiac arrest at her home.
She was the only child of rock ‘n’ roll legend Elvis Presley.
Paramedics attempted to revive the singer and performed CPR on her after she was found unresponsive in her Calabasas, California home.
She was hospitalized before she died.
Lisa Marie’s mother, Priscilla Presley, confirmed the news of her daughter’s death in a statement PEOPLE.
She said: “It is with a heavy heart that I share the devastating news that our beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has passed away.”

Rock legend Jeff Beck died on January 10, 2023 at the age of 78
The Hi Ho Silver Lining star died in hospital after a battle with meningitis, his management said.
Jeff rose to fame in the 1960s when The Yardbirds played alongside a young Jimmy Page, later of Led Zeppelin, before launching his own career.
Considered one of the most influential guitarists of his generation, his screeching solos earned him the nickname “the guitarist’s guitarist.”
David Duckham

Former England rugby star David Duckham died on January 10, 2023 at the age of 76.
Duckham played for local club Coventry between 1967 and 1979 and played almost 200 games.
Playing in the middle, the star quickly became known for his quick movements and ability to get past opponents.
During his lifetime he received an MBE for his services to rugby.
Wylie Longmore

Coronation Street and Love Actually star Wyllie Longmore died on January 6, 2023 at the age of 82 after a battle with cancer.
The actor was best known for supporting Dr. McKinnon in the ITV soap opera in the 1990s.
He also starred opposite Hugh Grant in Love Actually as the Prime Minister’s partner.
Gianluca Vialli

Chelsea legend Gianluca Vialli died on January 6, 2023 at the age of 58 after a battle with cancer.
Vialli, who has had a glittering career at Sampdoria, Juventus and Chelsea and won 59 caps for Italy, was diagnosed in 2017.
The Italian received the all-clear in 2020 but unfortunately his pancreatic cancer returned a year later in 2021.
David Gold

West Ham co-chairman David Gold died on 4 January 2023 aged 86.
He died after a short illness with his fiancé Lesley and daughters Jacqueline and Vanessa by his side.
David – worth over £500million – grew up on Green Street in East London, just yards from the Boelyn Ground.
A lifelong Hammers fan, David bought the club with longtime business partner David Sullivan in 2010.
Fay Weldon

Screenwriter Fay Weldon died on January 4, 2023 at the age of 91.
She was the writer for ITV’s Upstairs Downstairs and the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.
She also wrote more than 30 novels including The Life and Loves of a She-Devil and Praxis.
The latter received her Booker Prize and nominations for the Whitbread Literature Shortlist.
Michel Ferte

Former Formula 3 driver and Le Mans runner-up Michel Ferte died on January 4, 2023.
Ferte’s death at the age of 64 was announced by Le Mans organizers, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest.
The Frenchman won the 1983 Monaco F3 Grand Prix after his brother Alain’s back-to-back wins in 1981 and 1982.
He then took victory in the 1983 French F3 Championship after finishing second the year before.
Kelly Monteith

Comedian Kelly Monteith died on January 3, 2023 at the age of 80.
The comedy legend was best known for being one of the first to get his own BBC series – and the self-titled show ran from 1979 to 1984.
His death was confirmed by The Anglophile Channel, a Los Angeles-based production company that worked closely with him.
Kelly’s sad death came just a year after the comedian suffered two strokes.
Alan Rankin

Scottish musician and founding member of The Associates Alan Rankine died on January 3, 2023 at the age of 64.
The producer, best known for being the keyboardist and guitarist in the indie rock band, died after spending Christmas with his family.
His sons Callum and Hamish announced his death on social media, saying he “died peacefully at home shortly after spending Christmas with his family”.
Ken Block

Rally motorist and former Top Gear star Ken Block died on January 2, 2023 at the age of 55 after a snowmobile accident.


Sharing the news of his death, Ken’s Team Hoonigan Racing Division said, “He will be missed beyond belief.”
The team said in a statement: “Ken was a visionary, a pioneer and an icon. And above all a father and husband.”
