Cecilia Vega breaks ties with GMA with major social media shifts after moving to rival network

CECILIA Vega has made a major shift on social media, further separating from her previous position as host of Good Morning America.
On January 19, 2023, 60 Minutes announced via Twitter that Cecilia would join the CBS News team as a correspondent for the aired newsmagazine.

Cecilia, 46, shared an Instagram Story post on Thursday announcing that she has changed her name on the social media platform.
The former ABC World News Tonight host captioned “New handle. Same Me” revealed that the updated handle is @ceciliavega60.
The Good Morning America alum was unable to keep her previous Instagram caption @ceciliavegaabc after moving to a competing network.
When Cecilia shared her career move, many of the journalist’s former colleagues at ABC flooded the comments on her Instagram post announcing the news to congratulate her.

However, Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos remained remarkably calm.
Cecilia – who often fills in for Robin and George at GMA – wrote on Instagram: “So proud to share the news to join @60minutes as a correspondent.
“I am forever grateful to @abcnews for giving me a front row seat to the story. And I thank YOU for all the love today. I am indescribably moved.”
Sam Champion wrote, “Following OUR dreams is an amazing journey of discovery and accomplishment.

SAYING GOODBYE
Cecilia will start on the evening show in the spring, Deadline reported Thursday.
She will travel from New York to Washington, DC and be the only reporter in the capital for 60 minutes.
In addition to GMA, Cecilia has also hosted the Saturday edition of World News Tonight.
Cecilia usually fills in for Robin Roberts, Michael Strahan and George Stephanopoulos when they are absent from the morning show.
GMA loses another presenter as Amy and TJ are still banned from the show.
Earlier this week, a network source exclusively told The US Sun that Amy and TJ are unofficially on the road at GMA3 and seven weeks after being taken off the air, their newly appointed legal teams are working out a plan with ABC’s attorneys and top executives make big announcement.
As The US Sun previously reported, the co-hosts’ alleged affair rocked the newscast in late November.
The source claimed, “The ABC legal team is taking a really long time because it’s a really small but totally trusted team of lawyers.
“They definitely score with their I’s and cross their T’s for Amy and TJ’s exit strategy.”
GO ON, GO ON
Cecilia joined the ABC team in 2011, working as a news correspondent in Los Angeles.
The 46-year-old has had a hugely successful career and was ABC’s chief White House correspondent.
As previously mentioned, she has also worked for the network’s World News Tonight with David Muir, Nightline and 20/20.
As her official ABC News bio notes, Vega has covered various topics including the coronavirus pandemic, relations with Russia, the economy and immigration.
Vegas ABC News Biography also says, “Her assignments have taken her to almost every state and around the world, covering important moments in history including a papal conclave and the Olympic Games.”
It continues: “After the nuclear disaster in Fukushima, Japan, Vega traveled to the disaster area, got dressed and went to the radioactive power plant – twice.”
It then reads: “She took a submarine to the bottom of the Arctic and petted whales in the Sea of Cortez. She has interviewed everyone from celebrities to world leaders.”
As the publication also notes, Vega won an Emmy Award for ABC’s KGO-TV in San Francisco. She later won an award for her work at the San Francisco Chronicle.
The journalist has been a GMA co-host since 2022, filling in for Robin Roberts who has been taking breaks from the show.

According to CBS News, following the announcement that Vega would be joining the network, 60 Minutes Executive Producer Bill Owens said, “Cecilia Vega is a sensational reporter and storyteller. I’m no longer excited to welcome her to 60 Minutes. Your new colleagues can only agree.”
Vega said: “This is a dream come true. I am extremely honored to join the ranks of this legendary show and to work alongside journalism’s finest reporters.”
