And he has started to find his way, providing an assist in Sunday’s 2-1 away win at Everton and finding old Real team-mate Ronaldo behind the Toffees’ defence, who then scored his 700th club goal.

The Brazilian specializes in protecting defense and prides himself on winning possession and tackling.

Specialties like this, Casemiro says, will help Man Utd’s attacking players succeed.

Casemiro says players like Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho will all benefit from the balance he brings to the team.

He told manutd.com: “Everyone knows my work. My role is defensive – I help my teammates and get the ball out of the back with quality.

“It’s my job. If goals come from it, great. We have other players whose first thought is to score goals.

“There’s Kris [Cristiano Ronaldo], [Jadon] Sancho, [Marcus] Rashford and Bruno [Fernandes]. You are on the pitch to score goals.

“First and foremost, I defend and balance the team. I help my teammates defend, get the ball out with quality, that’s my job.

“Of course it’s nice to score here or there, but doing my job and defending well comes first.”

Casemiro also admitted his wife is “a bit annoyed” as he only watches football at home.

But he says it’s a key component to his success.

He added: “I watch a lot of football. I love it. My wife is a bit annoyed because there is only football at home!”

“Football is my passion, it’s my soul and I think that was the key to my success. I love football. I love watching football.”

Casemiro hopes to regain some form at the World Cup in Qatar in November-December.

Brazil is one of the favorites to win the sixth tournament.

Argentina is also a strong contender as the major European superpowers have faltered ahead of the winter tournament.
