But the Italian called the Championship Club and praised his former pal at Everton.

The two coaches worked alongside the former striker as his assistant during the Italian tactician’s brief spell at Goodison Park.

Ancelotti received an offer he couldn’t refuse when Real Madrid called last summer.

And the former AC Milan boss was so impressed with Ferguson that he wanted to take the Scot to Spain.

However, Ferguson remained loyal to the Toffees where he was a club legend as a player.

The former forward worked alongside Rafael Benitez during his doomed time at Goodison.

After the Spaniard’s sacking, he had a brief stint as caretaker boss before becoming part of Frank Lampard’s backroom team as the Toffees stayed up in the final weeks of the season.

Ancelotti had an overall more successful season, winning the LaLiga title at a gallop before beating Liverpool in the Champions League final last weekend.

It’s unclear if Ferguson would leave Goodison to take over Ewood Park.

Blackburn have been looking for a new manager since Tony Mowbray departed after missing the Championship play-offs.
