Car crashes into another car on the way through the driveway

A car rammed through an aisle and a parking lot and damaged several vehicles in its path. This took place in the Publix parking lot in Port Charlotte Crossing on Monday.

There was some notable damage left behind, including the plaited sign at the entrance to the Dunkin Donuts drive-thru. A car driving out of the Rib City driveway next to the Dunkin jumped onto the curb and hit an oncoming car and pushed it onto another curb.

The people working in the square were shocked when it happened. Jessica Hansen is the manager of Rib City and says she can still hear the sound of the crash. “A lot of screaming and banging and a lot more screaming and banging,” said Hansen.

Paulina Filmanowicz is an employee at Rita’s staff. “I actually turned my back, and I heard it. It was so big that I jumped,” said Filmanowicz.

Claudia Ahrens works at Rib City. “To this day, I still tremble,” Ahrens said.

The driver was passing through the US-41-only Rib City in Port Charlotte. Hansen says that being drier is a normal thing. “He was so happy. He was so calm. He looked like he was about to go home like he was preparing for lunch,” said Hansen.

She handed over his regular order and closed the window. “It wasn’t long before I closed the window and walked away. That’s when everything happens in a matter of seconds,” Hansen said.

That driver jumped onto the curb, hit a Dunkin donut sign, and collided with another vehicle. It pushed the vehicle to another 50-foot curb. “He just thought the throttle was a break point and hit it harder and just kept having an accident,” Hansen said.

The driver then hit four cars in the Publix parking lot and pushed the fifth car into a shopping cart. He then hit the sixth and final car before coming to a stop.

Ahrens said: “Your heart drops, and you’re like, ‘oh my gosh, is everyone okay,” Ahrens said.

The five cars involved were badly damaged and towed. Luckily no one was seriously injured. Ahrens said: “I’m calmer now knowing that no one was really hurt.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said the driver appeared unaffected. However, he was found at fault and charged with careless driving. Car crashes into another car on the way through the driveway
