CAPE CORAL

More than 100 people gathered at Cape Coral to celebrate Chanukah’s first day. Chabad in Cape Coral is located along the Cape Coral Parkway.

A menorah lighting ceremony was held earlier in the evening.

Attendees say the festival is shedding light on their religious beliefs. Russell Crakow lives in Cape Coral.

“It sheds light on the world and right now, more than ever, we need a lot of light to help cast out evil and manifest positivity in our lives,” says Crakow.

Cynthia Fairman lives in Fort Myers. “Our Judaism isn’t recognized as much as Christmas and Hanukkah time, so making sure we reach out to others about Judaism and our religion is very important,” Fairman said.

The first candle is lit on Sunday night, marking the first day of the celebration.
