But Argentina’s Agüero, 34, jumped into his former teammate’s defense in response to Canelo, 32.
He tweeted: “Mr. Canelo, don’t look for excuses or problems, you certainly don’t know anything about football and what happens in a dressing room.
“The shirts are always on the ground after the game because of sweat and if you see well he makes the move to remove the loot and accidentally hits it.”
Canelo replied angrily, suggesting that Aguero had messaged him privately with a different point of view.
He replied: “You b***** too… you wrote me oh oh Canelo and now don’t be a hypocritical bastard.
“Unfair? Unfair what you just did you are writing this and a minute ago you were ***ing on my Instagram DMs you have to be clear and to the point.”
Messi, 35, inspired Argentina with a goal and an assist as his country beat Canelos Nation 2-0 to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
During the dressing room celebrations, the Barcelona legend appeared to have kicked a Mexico shirt lying on the floor away from him.
Canelo took offense at this tweet: “Did you see Messi cleaning the ground with our shirt and our flag?
“He better pray to God I don’t find him. As I respect Argentina, he must respect Mexico!”
But Aguero claimed that Canelo’s criticism of Messi was harsh.
He wrote: “I admired you Mr. Canelo. But what he did to Messi today was a blow. And you know better than anyone that that’s unfair.”
