Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has claimed that pound-for-pound superstar Canelo Alvarez could rise to DARK in the future.
The 31-year-old Mexican recently defeated IBF super middleweight champion Caleb Plant to become the undisputed king at 168lbs.
Canelo has also won titles in light-middle, middle and light-heavyweight.
And on Thursday, his ability to jump to cruiser class shocked the sport when the WBC ordered a showdown between Alvarez and champion Ilunga Makabu.
The 34-year-old Congolese boxer has only lost twice in 30 fights, the highest of which came when he was knocked out by Tony Bellew in 2016.
If that clash goes ahead, it will see Canelo jump from 168lbs to 200lbs.
But Hearn, who has cheered for Mexico’s games in the past, believes he can go even further by going all the way to the HIGHT end.
Talking to iFL TV, he said: “I think with Canelo and Eddie Reynoso, they want a challenge. They want to be great, that’s huge for the sport.
“The battle against Makabu is a cruiser match that will give him another world championship win, there will be a lot of people talking about it like last night, and I think it’s a good choice for him.” he.
“I think it’s a dangerous fight. I talked to Tony Bellew – who could look great for a few months if this happens – and he said that Makabu is a massive puncher, a puncher. big and very powerful.
“I think when you look at Saul, the fight with Golovkin was a very big fight financially, a lot of people would want to see that fight. But does that motivate him?
“I think he can become undisputed at 175 and I like that plan. But there’s also the cruiser class.
“Listen, he can go ahead and fight at heavyweight. I mean, Usyk isn’t too big of a heavyweight, Trevor Bryant is also a world champion. Can he compete with that? those people?
“Maybe the first is the Cruiser class. But I like the match against Makabu. I think it’s a dangerous fight, I think it’s an interesting fight and like I said, Saul and Eddie are interested in doing things. so history.
“They don’t care about boring, normal fights. Every fight has to be meaningful.”
Hearn didn’t specifically mention Tyson Fury or Anthony Joshua as potential opponents for Canelo, but they are two of the biggest names in the heavyweight division.
Fury currently holds the WBC belt, while Joshua rematches Oleksandr Usyk next year as he bids to regain the IBF, WBA and WBO belts.
American Bryant is also on this list as a regular WBA owner.
Canelo is still the man with the biggest draw in boxing so many boxers are lining up to face him as he is the most lucrative financial draw the sport has to offer.

Just as Makabu was in cruiser class and moved up to heavyweight, Canelo could also choose to hold a three-part battle against Gennady Golovkin.
The Kazakh boxer drew with Alvarez in September 2017 before Canelo made the majority decision 12 months later.
There’s also the possibility that Canelo, the only man to lose to Floyd Mayweather eight years ago, could face the fearsome lightweight Artur Beterbiev.
