The families of the victims expressed rough feelings and outrage at the senseless violence that took the lives of promising children.

One person said: “So that people don’t have to give up and get sick and tired of this, it’s incredibly frustrating.

A heartbreaking crowd lined up on Gerrit Street in Homewood on Monday in honor of 28-year-old Nandi Fitzgerald, 28-year-old Tatiana Hill and Denzel Nolan Jr. 13 years old.

The teenager has long been involved in community youth sports and is loved by his family and coaches.

“This is a kid who started with our organization when he was four or five years old, and the kid who got on the field for the first time and was the last to leave, known to the community. It’s a tragedy,” said Mubarik Ismeali, president of Homewood Community Sports.

Family, friends and the community marched multiple blocks to the Homewood soccer field.

“I feel like I’ve lost one of my own kids,” said one of the boy’s coaches. “I’m a man, I shouldn’t cry, this hurts.”

Nolan and his young mother were among three people killed in the tragic murder.

“What they did to me, no one deserves all that,” said the boy’s grandmother. “I had some sleepless nights. I think I’m leaving Homewood because I’m going to miss everyone. ”

In the words of one of the coaches, not a single child is buried, and everyone in the community must be involved to create a safe environment.
