Eagle-eyed Reddit users have been trying to spot the nearly invisible snake.

It shows a harmless forest floor covered with dried leaves, sticks and greenery, but hiding in between is a deadly snake – can you see it?

“The reason you need to keep an eye on every step you take in the woods,” the post’s author captioned the photo.

The image left users scratching their heads.

“Because of that, it seems pointless to watch your step. Unless I want to spend my whole afternoon doing a very safe 50ft hike,” one person wrote.

“Have to use your walking sticks like white canes,” joked a second.

“That’s why I wear closed shoes,” said another.

“You have to sprint and scream as loud as you can in the forest. It’ll scare pretty much everything away,” wrote a third.

If you look a little closer, you can see an S-shape to the left of the yellow-green leaf in the middle.

The Copperhead has tan triangles and is fully camouflaged with the foliage.

It comes as a hiker snapped a “ghostly figure” while climbing a mountain last month.

Thomas Swallow, 39, was leading his friends when he turned to see a figure hovering high above the ground.

But actually he was looking at his own reflection at the Great End in the Lake District.

The phenomenon is a rare optical illusion known as the Brocken Specter, in which a large shadow is cast on clouds or fog.

Thomas, from Manchester, said: “I was a bit surprised. It’s really beautiful.

“It looks like a figure floating in the sky, it looks quite spiritual.

“It was weird, surreal and a really beautiful moment – I was looking down from the summit into a gully, the sun was behind me and was shining brightly.

“It was an overcast day, so the clouds were moving in and out of the summit.

“I could see particles of moisture in the air when I looked up and I saw my shadow in the middle of a rainbow.

“I was in the moment and I enjoyed thinking, ‘I’ve never seen anything like this before’.”
