Brits still out of lockdown as ‘normal life may return in a few months’ plus Covid death today

Scotland’s top document warns parties could be banned in MONTHS
National Clinical Director Jason Leitch said the current restrictions could be in place until April to prevent the spread of the Omicron variant.
When presented with the idea of holding a large gathering like Hogmanay at the end of April, in a BBC 4 interview, health experts said it “may be a little too early.”
The health expert’s answer was: “I enjoy a night out in Edinburgh, just like anyone else in Scotland.
“I’m definitely looking forward to Hogmanay next year, but whether we can make it to April, I think the jury is out yet.
“We are very hopeful and the data is now being adjusted. Now we have data from South Africa, from University College London, from Denmark, and importantly from Edinburgh showing that serious illness is definitely less with this variant, maybe less than three quarters. .
“But let’s put that in perspective – 2,500 Delta cases [per day] takes you to a 50-person hospital and we don’t take that lightly.
“You need 10,000 Omicron cases for the same number of admissions and Scotland’s 15,000 cases, so it’s not a jump and you’re free.”
