BRITNEY Spears shocked fans as she revealed she changed her name to River Red.
The singer, 41, made the announcement after her husband Sam Asghari slammed claims he was “controlling”.
Britney posted a picture of Mars and wrote: “A bright one… simple as that!!! Thanks childhood friend, I’ve found my ball…don’t underestimate the power of purity!!! I
“look through it all…it’s liquid and it’s wet…it’s playful and it’s bulky!!! I changed my name to River Red!!!”
The Toxic singer then added “River Red” to her Instagram bio.
It’s unclear if she’s legally changed her nickname yet.
Fans went wild over the ‘cryptic’ change on social media, writing: ‘Britney changing her Insta name from Channel 8 to River Red is so interesting does anyone know what that means? So cryptic.”
Others thought this might mean Britney will start releasing music soon.
Hours earlier, Britney had posted a video of herself in one red Coca-Cola top and a matching mini skirt while dancing to the attention of Omah Lay and Justin Bieber.
The mother-of-two then laughed at TMZ’s claims that she had a “meltdown” at a Los Angeles restaurant earlier this month in the caption.
She wrote: “Posting that I’m tipsy on the news and then taking advantage of my past is a clever way of making me look like a pardoned woman for us to look at and say AWWW!!!
“My neighborhood friend says I’ll pay for the rest of my life for this!!! I’m sorry dear friend but if you ever got a taste of my cake…I could finally have it with my beautiful A* * deliver …
“I think my ignorant way of trusting these TRUSTEES couldn’t be looking anywhere else…not for an ice cream bowl or to show relevance but maybe MY A**.” Pssss another edit by RED!!!!
Britney’s name change comes after her husband Sam denied allegations that he is ‘controlling’.
Sam made the comments in a video obtained by TMZ in which a photographer asked him about recent fan concerns that he was “controlling” his famous wife.
Laughing at the question, Sam replied, “No man I don’t even control what we’re having for dinner!”
When investigated further, he said, “Oh man, you know a lot of things have happened in the past, so I get where they’re coming from, they’re just protective.”
“If anything, they’re just good fans,” he added, before jumping into his vehicle.
However, people were still unconvinced and took to Twitter to voice their thoughts.
“The more he tries to clear this up, the more suspicious it becomes,” claimed one person.
Another tweeted: “Oh he definitely controls her,” while a third added: “I don’t believe him! He’s the one taking the pictures!”
Sam’s comments come after Britney shared another racy Instagram post – this time of her in the shower.
In the short clip, Britney, 41, stood naked and threw back her head as she let the water run down her body.
She captioned the cheeky video: “I’m posting these from Mexico! I honestly have no idea why, but I can see it better!”
“I was in the shower for 2 hours but we can’t show our bodies now!!! There’s something about shooting in the water!!! I wanted to see my eyes!!!” she added.
However, the Gimme More hitmaker decided to keep comments disabled.
Earlier this month, The US Sun exclusively revealed that Britney is considering a return to singing in 2023 – after initially vowing to give up her career.
The star has been besieged with offers for new tracks and collaborations following the success of her comeback duet with Sir Elton John, ‘Hold Me Closer’.
Britney is considering going back into the studio to record some tunes, but it will be “on her terms and in her time,” an insider told The US Sun.
Her music release will coincide with the spring release of her planned memoir.
The singer hasn’t released a new album since 2016, when she released Glory as her ninth studio album.
