British ‘right-wing’ male student, 15, arrested on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack

A BRITISH male student has been arrested on suspicion of planning a far-right terrorist attack.
The 15-year-old boy was arrested by counter-terrorism police on Friday as part of a “proactive operation”.
He was detained on suspicion of preparing for acts of terrorism.
The boy was released on bail until one day in February, the Met’s Counter-Terrorism Command confirmed.
His home in South London was searched as part of the investigation.
A notice said: “A 15-year-old boy has been detained under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act after being arrested on suspicion of preparing for acts of terrorism (contrary to Section 5 of the Act). Terrorism Act 2006).
“Searches at the address were conclusive. The boy was taken to London police station and he has since been released on bail in February.
“It is not believed that there is any imminent threat to the public regarding this.”
“The ongoing investigation is suspected of being linked to extreme right-wing ideology.”
It comes as officials warn of a rise in youth who are being drawn into right-wing extremism.
This increase is attributed to young people spending more time online during the pandemic.
In the year to March 2021, 21 people under the age of 18 were arrested on terrorism charges with 71% of these being linked to far-right beliefs.
