Amanda got out of the water off the Caribbean island around 4:45 p.m. and rushed to the hospital by ambulance, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The GoFundMe page has raised £8,582 of its £10,000 goal in the three days since its launch.

Her sister Denia Chibwe wrote: “Today I am at a loss for words as I sadly lost a beautiful living soul, my only sister. Amanda went abroad on vacation and sadly drowned.

“Help came, but she later died in hospital. She left her beautiful 3 children.

“Our wish is to have her home back with us, where she belongs.

“We would really appreciate any help as I know she touched so many lives with her kindness, laughter and caring soul.”

Many comments expressed their shock and sadness at the death and offered words of comfort to the Chibwe family.

“Amanda you were such a genuine girl I can’t say anything bad about you. Realest of many very sweet with a loving spirit I will always remember you this way,” read one.

“Condolences go out to your family and friends in particular.”
