The north London mum and her daughters began fighting back in the choppy waves as husband Vishal Maugi returned from the hotel room.

The distraught father discovered vacationers crowding around Vishal’s struggling family at Il Playa del Carmen beach near Cancun.

After noticing that his wife had not returned to shore from swimming, Vishal dispatched a lifeguard on a jet ski to find the lost mother.

Tragically, the lifeguard returned Lina’s lifeless body.

A coroner ruled the mother died of “suffocation by submersion” in a horrific vacation accident on July 24 last year.

Vishal’s testimony was supported by Dr. Peter Straker, Assistant Attorney at Coroner’s Court in North London, read to the grieving family via video link.

The father said: “On July 24, 2022, between about 10:30 and 11:00 a.m., we went to the beach to take some photos.

“I went swimming in the sea with my daughters and left my wife with my camera.”

Vishal said his wife wanted to swim, so she asked him to take her beach bag to the hotel room.

Returning to the beach, he saw the crowds around the waves and found his eldest daughter.

He said: “People had managed to hold on to my eldest daughter.

“I approached the lifeguard and ordered him to help find my wife on his jet ski because no one could find her.

“When he came back he was trying to get the water out of her body.”

Paramedics tried in vain to help the drowning mother before she was taken to a nearby clinic, where doctors began resuscitating Lina.

Heartbreakingly, Vishal said, “Half an hour later the doctor came out and informed me that my wife could not survive.”

The husband thanked his extended family for their constant care and support, as well as the Mexican and British governments.

The only sister in a family of five brothers, Lina left a gaping hole for the grieving family.

The coroner ruled: “Lina Dilipkamura died on July 24 off the coast of Mexico of complications from asphyxiation by submersion.
