A BRITISH man has been “beheaded” with a sickle in Thailand and another is fighting for his life after an altercation with a local man wielding a knife.
The couple were attacked in the town of Kanchanaburi, in the southwest of the country, in the early hours of this morning.
The dead Briton, 49, from Somerset, was found lying face down in a pool of blood with a knife wound to his neck, according to local reports.
He died at the scene.
His British boyfriend, 55, from Nuneaton, Warwickeshire, was critically injured and is said to be fighting for his life in hospital.
The duo were attacked by a local Thai man using a machete after what police believe may have been a noise argument.
The British friends had been drinking beer and playing loud music around 3am before they were arrested, police said.
Police have arrested a 22-year-old Thai man in connection with the attack.
Local media reported that the suspect had a history of mental health problems.
In 2004, two other Britons were attacked and killed in Kanchanaburi.
Adam Lloyd, 25, and Vanessa Arscott, 24, had been backpacking in Thailand for two months when they got into an altercation with a police officer on duty and both were shot.
A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: “We are in contact with the Royal Thai Police following the death of a British man and the hospitalization of another in Thailand and ready to provide consular assistance”.
