‘British’ girl, 4, found face down in a swimming pool in the Algarve while fighting for her life in hospital

A British girl is fighting for her life in hospital after she was found face down in a swimming pool in the Algarve.

The four-year-old was on holiday in the popular resort of Lagos, Portugal, when she was found unconscious in a pool.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and found her in a “serious condition.”

The tot, who is believed to be British, was taken to Portimao hospital following the incident yesterday.

The pool where the girl was found was in a private house.

Her current condition is currently unknown.

Local police were not immediately available for comment this morning.

It comes a week after a seven-year-old girl died in hospital two days after being pulled from a hotel pool in Mallorca.

The young girl was taken to an intensive care unit “in critical condition” after being saved from drowning.

Sources at Son Espases Hospital in the island’s capital, Palma, later confirmed that she had died.

A routine police investigation is ongoing at the four-star HYB Eurocalas hotel in the east coast resort of Calas de Mallorca.

And on June 5, six-year-old Corey Aughey, from North Belfast, died in hospital after falling into a hotel pool.

He lived with his family in the Mallorcan resort of Sa Coma, near Villa Love Island.

A British toddler also drowned in a swimming pool accident on the Costa Blanca last month.

Freddie Joseph Briggs died on May 25 in the pool at his childhood home in the village of Aigues, near Benidorm.

Tributes were paid to the 19-month-old boy at his funeral service at a church in Belfast, where he was christened, before being buried in a nearby cemetery.

His father Thomas McGlynn told mourners the boy brought happiness to those around him and lived his short life “to the fullest”.
