British girl, 14, sexually assaulted during family holiday in Spanish hotel arrested as resort guest

A MAN has been arrested over an alleged sexual assault on a 14-year-old British girl at a hotel in Spain.

The suspect was described locally as a Briton who was staying at the same unnamed hotel at the lively hotel Spanish Seaside town of Calella near Barcelona.

The teenager is said to have been on vacation with her parents and other relatives.

Three British men were in the room when the alleged sexual assault took place, according to Catalan radio station Catalunya Informacio, who said only one had been arrested.

The arrest for the incident on Thursday evening is said to have taken place in the early hours of Friday morning.

The British teenager was taken to the Sant Jaume Hospital in Calella for a medical examination after the police call.

Some Spanish newspapers describe the sexual assault as rape, although this has not yet been confirmed by the police.

Pictures were also released showing officers taking away a man wearing a baseball cap and yellow coat linked to the alleged sexual assault arrest.

The suspect, whose name and age have not been released, is now in prison awaiting an ongoing criminal investigation after being remanded in custody by a coroner in Arenys de Mar, near Calella.

Calella is known as the tourist capital of the Costa del Maresme.

It lies between Barcelona 30 miles south and Girona the same distance north.

The Costa del Maresme borders on the internationally more famous Costa Brava in the north.

The Mossos d’Esquadra, the regional police who made the arrest, could not be reached this morning for an official comment.

A court official confirmed: “A judge at the Court of First Instance No. 7 in Arenys de Mar, which acts as a service court, has agreed to remand a man who was arrested on suspicion of sexually abusing a minor in Calella.”
