Britain’s richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe officially launches Man Utd takeover bid as he says: ‘We have entered the process’

Britain’s richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe has reportedly entered the race to buy Manchester United.

The Old Trafford club was put up for sale by the Glazers back in November, although they are still waiting to find a suitable buyer.

But the Times has claimed that Ratcliffe has now confirmed he is in the running to be taken over by the Americans.

The report says offers are expected from the US, the Middle East and Asia, but the 70-year-old is the first to publicly express his interest.

A spokesman said: “We have formally engaged in the process.”

Official bids are set to take place in early February to change hands by the end of the season.

But a potential takeover that would be music to United fans’ ears can only happen if the Glazers agree on a price.

And they are thought to be looking for more than £5billion.

This comes less than two months after the Red Devils went up for sale.

A takeover would be a further boost for Erik ten Hag and company as things run like clockwork on the pitch.

United came from behind on Saturday to beat rivals Manchester City to record a ninth straight-line win and fight for the title race.
