The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. Sunday near a local fire station.

Attempts to save his life at the scene of the crime were unsuccessful.

Local reports say the driver who hit him continued driving without stopping and helping the victim.

Civil Guard sources said today they arrested a suspect on suspicion of manslaughter and failed to stop at the scene of the accident.

He was released on bail pending an ongoing investigation after appearing before a judge at a closed court hearing a few hours ago.

The dead Briton has not yet been named and it was not clear as of Monday night if he lived in the area or was on holiday.

He is said to have been cycling alone when he was run over.

The road he was hit on is the A-6111R.
