Brisbane Heat’s Liam Guthrie joins Basil Thampi, in the club of unwanted pitchers that leaked 70 runs in a T20

Australian left-handed players Liam Guthrie set a new record for the most expensive bowling spell in the Big Bash League (BBL) history in the match between the Brisbane Heat and the Melbourne Stars on Monday.

Playing for Brisbane, Guthrie has conceded 70 times in his four passes. Through his magic, he joined Indian fast pitcher Basil Thampi in an unlikely club of pitchers who have lost 70 or more runs in a T20 match.

Thampi returned to the number 0/70 playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Royal Challengers Bangalore at IPL 2018. Fans should note that Thampi and Guthrie are not the only pitchers to concede 70 or more goals in a T20 game.

New Zealand’s Andrew Mathieson played a 0/70 match against Auckland at the Georgie Pie Super Smash in 2015. Caribbean long-legged jumper Anthony Martin also dropped 70 runs while playing for the Leeward Islands in match against Trinidad and Tobago at the Caribbean T20 Tournament nine years ago.

Most conceded goals in a T20 inning while taking 2 or more points: 70 – Liam Guthrie (Bris Heat) v Mel Stars, today67 – Raymon Reifer (Barb Tridents) v St Lucia Stars, 201867 – Chris Wood ( Hampshire) v Glamorgan, 2019# BBL2021

In addition, there are three pitchers who have conceded more than 70 times in a T20 match. These are Kasun Rajitha (0/75 vs Australia, 2019), Ben Sanderson (0/77 vs Yorkshire, 2017) and Sarmad Anwar (0/81 vs Lahore Lions, 2011).

Liam Guthrie Breaks Ben Dwarshuis’ BBL Record

Liam Guthrie just had the most runs in BBL history. 2/70 is down four times from the previous highest figures held by Ben Dwarshuis, who won 1/61 in January 2020, also against the Stars. # BBL11

Last year, Ben Dwarshuis conceded 61 times in a BBL match between the Sydney Sixers and the Melbourne Stars, setting a new record for most expensive spell. Liam Guthrie broke that record 2/70 against the Stars earlier tonight.

Half a century from Joe Clarke and Hilton Cartwright guided the Melbourne Stars to 207/9 in 20 passes of the Brisbane Heat. Liam Guthrie picked up Cartwright and Joe Burns squiggles.

The Brisbane Heat are leading 84/2 after 9 runs to 208. You can follow the match live scoreboard right now. here.
