The day before her death, Melanie Pillman shared a post on her Instagram account about how happy she was with her current “me.”

“The glow is when you stop waiting to transform into a perfect version of yourself and consciously enjoy being in the present,” the post reads.

A fan page of her son, who is also a wrestler, commented on the heart eye emoji under the post.

Pillman also shared other “self-care” posts in the days leading up to her sudden death.

Another post read, “Try fail, learn repeat.”

Melanie’s official cause of death has not been released.

In his post, Pillman Jr. said, “While her death was unexpected, it was not surprising.”

“Her lifestyle, which dominated most of the last 25 years of her life, finally caught up with her,” he added.

Her heartbroken son also said he “didn’t have the best relationship with my mom.”

“Although my sister and I had been in touch with her recently and were working to improve that relationship,” he continued.

While the mother and son tried to mend their relationship, he said he regrets not spending enough time with her.

“I regret not texting her back even though I had the time. I regret not trying more to get her out of her bad habits and help her get the help she needed,” Pillman Jr. wrote.

“Thank you mom for bringing me into this world and doing your best. You were my #1 fan in wrestling and on Twitch.”

He added that sharing their family history in the documentary The Dark Side of the Ring “was the beginning of us to mend our relationship.”

FAMILY WRESTLING STARS

Pillman Jr.’s father, also known as Brian Pillman, was a wrestling superstar in the 1980s and 90s.

His father had stints with World Championship Wrestling (WCW), Extreme Championship Wrestling, and WWE.

Pillman Sr created a legacy as “The Loose Cannon” gimmick in which he did a series of working shots that portrayed his character as unpredictable.

However, a car accident in April 1996 caused extensive ankle injuries which ultimately limited his ability in the ring in the latter stages of his career.

Late in his career, he worked on a gun story with longtime friend and former teammate Stone Cold Steve Austin and with the Hart Foundation during the WWE Attitude Era.

He died in 1997 from an undiscovered heart disease.

Pillman Jr. followed in his father’s footsteps and made his pro wrestling debut in December 2017.

He is currently half of the Varsity Blonds tag team for All Elite Wrestling.
