NORTBROOK, Ill —The River Trail Nature Center in Northbrook bringing respite and fresh air to those with cabin fever this holiday season.

Visitors can take a break from the hustle and bustle and get up close and personal with some of the animals at the center, located at 3120 Milwaukee Avenue.

“We are a gateway to nature,” said Michele Mottlowitz of the centre. “We have many exhibits.”

There are dozens of animals including turtles, eagles and a very active coyote. And there is always someone to answer your questions.

Family programs are free. There are many crafts and classes.

Animals at the center are not released into the wild. They will not be able to survive the injury or deformity.

The center is part of Cook County Forest Preserve and free admission. It is open seven days a week. Breathe in and connect with nature at River Trail Nature Center
