Boy, 5, dies after tree falls on home in DeKalb County as mother screams for help

A FIVE-year-old boy died after a horrific accident when he saw a tree fall on his home.
Fire officials were able to rescue the boy’s mother, however, found the child dead after being trapped by the tree.
The horrific incident happened at around 5:40 a.m. at a home in DeKalb County, Georgia.
Fire Chief Jaeson Daniels told Atlanta Journal-Constitution: “When they got there, they heard someone screaming, they were able to rescue a mother virtually unharmed.
“She complained there were no injuries, but the child was dead.”
He added that the tree had fallen in the middle of the house, which made recovery efforts more difficult.
The captain will have to immobilize the structure before they can get the child’s body out, the captain said.
“There was a lot of devastation,” said Daniels. “It really just splits the house in half.”
A wind notice is in effect for the area until midday.
Officials still don’t know what caused the tree to fall, but heavy rain over the weekend left the ground extremely saturated.
The Atlanta area recorded more than 6 inches of rain in December – and another 1.33 inches fell yesterday.
Wind gusts of up to 44 mph were recorded overnight, due to mixed snow and winter blowing through the area.
