Boy, 13, dies in Florida teen knife fight; 4 others were injured

A 13-year-old boy has died and four others were stabbed in a knife fight between a group of Florida teenagers, the sheriff said Sunday.

Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook said at a news conference that the altercation involved at least nine boys between the ages of 10 and 17. No arrests had been made as of Sunday afternoon.

The brawl began when a group of boys arrived at a home in Orange Park around 7:30 p.m. Saturday and challenged two boys who were alone in the house to a fight, Cook said. The boys inside called their friends to come as reinforcements and the fight started after they reached the front yard.

The 13-year-old boy who died was part of a group of teenagers who were initially outside the home, the sheriff said.

Two boys remained hospitalized on Sunday, while the others received treatment. The conditions of those two and the identities of any other boys were not immediately released.

“I wish these young men would call 911 instead of their friends,” Cook said of the two who were challenged to a fight. “If someone feels like they’re being threatened in any way, please give us a call.”
