Boris Johnson must apologize to the nation and stop shrinking from his duty

Sorry mess

BORIS Johnson owes the nation an immediate and very public apology.

Without that there is no viable way he can begin to rebuild confidence in him as Prime Minister.

Hiding in No10, hoping this horrifying scandal will blow and sending ministers to protect the seemingly invincible will only bury him deeper in the hole he’s dug.

It’s true that admitting he went to an illegal, restricted party could trigger a police investigation.

But the No10 might have to face that anyway.

Boris has only himself to blame.

He made and imposed the rules of Covid, then for all the world seems to have broken them.

We often defend him against critics driven primarily by Brexit and/or political grudges.

And some die-hard Boris fans will still argue that the Downing Street parties two years ago were inappropriate amid the broader Covid-19 situation and a new cost of living crisis. Not us, though.

On May 20, 2020, Tory senior Oliver Dowden – broadcasting live from Downing Street – banned more than two people from different households from meeting outside.

Just 100 yards away, a fun garden party was organized for Boris’ employees.

The Prime Minister should have turned it off immediately when he noticed it. Instead, he and Carrie are said to have gone as star guests.

Britain made great sacrifices to comply with Boris’s rules. Birthdays and weddings go wrong, friendships stagnated. Loved ones died alone. The lockbreakers were enthusiastically prosecuted.

Boris, it seems, just broke up.

His power has now been crushed, at best.

This is even worse”Partygate“Saga is crippling No10 and distracting the Prime Minister from raising prices, leveling up and delivering on his commitments to Sun readers.

It must stop. Boris has to face the music and live with all the consequences.

Without that, how can he hope to regain publicity?

Smart move

GOOD to Transport Secretary Grant Shapps for seeing what “smart” highways mean.

No more death trap pathways will be built until a long-term safety study is performed. Good.

More emergency routes will also be built, to reduce risks on existing “smart” roads or already built ones. But why stop there?

Is it obvious that a motorway without a stiff shoulder is more dangerous for a broken-down driver?

Let’s recover them.

Save his bacon

WE think pig hearts can save miracle man David Bennett.

It was his last hope, as he was too ill to have a human transplant. And what a breakthrough for humanity if it works.

David, in fact, had a pig valve implant many years ago.

Now he has gone the whole pig.
