Rishi Sunak and Boris Johnson need to put their egos aside and come together

It’s a simple question.

But it doesn’t reflect the underlying rivalry at the heart of the competition.

Both believe they have a good chance of becoming prime minister.

And their clashes are fresh in the memory of the former prime minister after his impeachment in July.

Rishi was first to 100 supporters because he has a strong parliamentary base.

Boris is still hugely popular with party members and Tory voters.

New polls show BoJo continues to lead in the Red Wall seats he won in the 2019 landslide.

Despite all the scandals, his popularity rating in the former Labor strongholds is plus 36. Rishi is 15 points behind in the same poll.

Holding on to these key northern outposts will be crucial if the Tories are to secure victory in the next general election.

But the party also needs a period of calm and stability to avoid total obliteration.

It needs to put the madness and chaos of the past few weeks behind it.

It will take time for the reputation for competence and responsibility to be restored.

Both rivals can convince with Tory MPs.

Rishi believes he is the best person to fix the economy.

Boris has told allies he is the only one with a mandate from voters.

But whatever happens, both he and Rishi must put unity first for the good of the country.

Whoever emerges victorious must be able to count on the full support of the party.

feud and deviousness

They cannot be paralyzed by feuds and underhandedness.

The nation faces too many problems for such carnage.

Boris and Rishi must set an example by healing their cracks.

A deal has yet to be struck between the two.

But prolonged power struggles will only do more damage to the economy and play straight into the hands of Keir Starmer.

For this reason, this competition is of great importance for the Tory party and Great Britain.
Boris and Rishi have to get it right.

There will be no second chances.
