Bonus one-time stimulus check of $500, $375 or $250 in tax refunds for millions of taxpayers in the state
A NEW law was signed to provide a tax refund for Georgia residents.
Gov. Brian Kemp signed House Bill 1302 to ensure that the Georgia Department of Revenue credited residents with a one-time refund after they filed their taxes.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp sighed on a new bill to provide one-time refunds for Georgians
If you are married or with your spouse, you can count on $500. Heads of household will receive $375 and individual applicants or those who submitted separately will receive $250.
In a news conference Friday in Savannah, Kemp spoke about the new legislation. He explained that the one-time tax credit is government money that will be returned to residents.
The money is not federal aid from President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan Act.
Instead, Kemp said the over $1 billion surplus was due to decisions by the state during the pandemic, a strong economy and conservative budgeting by lawmakers.

“This is one-time money. I think it’s best if we have more than we need to send back to the people who sent it to us, the taxpayers,” Kemp said.
“What we are doing will result in over $1 billion in refunds that will be in Georgian’s bank accounts in a matter of weeks. This also allows us to comply with the two-month moratorium on levying petrol tax at the pump.”
The extra money is available to “qualifying taxpayers,” defined in the bill as someone who filed individual income tax returns for both 2020 and 2021.
This excludes non-residents, estates or trusts and dependents.
In signing the bill, Kemp congratulated lawmakers on approving “this major relief that we’re seeking to get hard-working Georgians to give back over a billion dollars of their hard-earned money that, frankly, we didn’t need this year.”
Individuals who have already submitted 2021 taxes due April 18 will receive their money back in a separate payment
