Bodycam video shows cop Tase Biker lighting fire that ‘cooked him alive’

This is the shocking moment a police officer at a gas station fired a taser in a dirt biker’s face, igniting a fireball that “cooked him alive.”

Jean Barreto, 26, reportedly suffered third-degree burns to 75% of his body after Deputy David Crawford, who was also injured in the incident, set off a gasoline explosion while attempting to arrest him.

Disgusting footage shows the officer screaming in pain and rolling over in agony as the couple burst into flames at the Wawa gas station in Florida on February 27.

Both remain in hospital, with Mr Barreto reportedly fighting for his life while he undergoes another skin graft.

Reportedly under pressure from his family, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Department released bodycam footage of the incident this week.

The first, from Crawford’s camera, shows him approaching the gas pumps where Barreto was filling up his bike before bringing him down.

After the man appears to be resisting arrest, Cop Crawford pulls out a gun and tasers him while gas continues to spurt from the nearby gas pump.

Despite being confirmed to be assisting officers of the nearby flammable substance, Crawford appears to fire his taser again – triggering a burst of flames.

The clip shows him asking his colleagues to “put out” the fire on his legs as he frantically rolls over for 30 seconds.

Another video, taken from Deputy Christopher Koffina’s perspective, shows Mr. Barreto in a police car.

After rushing to help his colleague arrest him, Koffinas also appears to pull out a stun gun just before the explosion.

The assisting officers are shown putting out the fire on his own pants before helping Crawford, whose legs are engulfed in the flame.

Lying on the ground, another officer pours Gatorade on Crawford to put out the fire.

In both clips, the moment when Barreto receives his injuries cannot be seen.

When the shocking footage was released Thursday, an unnamed local police source branded Deputy Crawford’s actions leading up to the blast as “absolutely reckless.”

“Did this young man deserve this at the end of the day? If he survives, his life will be destroyed,” they told the Daily Mail.

“Part of the curriculum every law enforcement officer learns is determining the appropriate use of a gun. It is obvious that this was not a suitable environment to use the taser.”

An attorney for Mr Barreto, Mark NeJame, later described the “dangerous” aftermath of the incident, with his client remaining hospitalized.

He said, “Our client, Jean Barreto, was boiled alive by the overzealous, irresponsible and illegal actions of the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, whose policies, created and promoted by Sheriff Lopez, have led to this and other atrocities in his department.”

“Their actions insult and slander the mostly good members of law enforcement, just as their reckless policies maim, hurt and kill our citizens.”

‘COOKED ALIVE’

He further confirmed that his client remains at the Orlando hospital and has already undergone dozens of surgeries to treat his severe burns.

Now without most of his skin, Barreto is placed in a medically induced coma as he endures more intensive treatment to stay alive.

“He’s being wrapped and unwrapped in gauze daily and is still bleeding profusely because he doesn’t have the required amount of skin to absorb his bodily fluids,” NeJame said.

It came as Osceola County Sheriff Marco López was answering questions on behalf of police at a news conference – detailing the events leading up to the botched arrest.

He confirmed the man was attacked by police after allegedly skipping a traffic stop ordered by the authorities.

The intervention came after an 911 caller reported a reckless rider on a motorcycle allegedly threatening him with a gun at the side of the road.

Lopez added that the driver jumped approximately 13 red lights, performed 6 wheelies and drove in the oncoming lane five times while being pursued by police officers for several miles across Osceola County.

Police are reportedly planning to indict Barreto on multiple charges, including resisting arrest if he survives.

Regarding the incident, Sheriff Lopez previously admitted that a stun gun was used during the arrest, but would not say if he started the fire.

However, he added that if found guilty of setting off the blast, Crawford will likely face negligent negligence charges.

An internal investigation is ongoing into the Osceola County Sheriff’s handling of the incident.
