Body found in search of man who ‘got into trouble’ swimming in lake during heatwave

A BODY has been found in a search for a man who “got into trouble” in a lake in Doncaster as temperatures soared today.

Firefighters, police and ambulances, along with a helicopter, rushed to Lakeside today after an urgent search was launched.

Unfortunately, the body of a man was found.

South Yorkshire Police said this evening: “We are very sorry to report that following earlier information about an incident in Lakeside, Doncaster, a body has now been found.

“The emergency services responded to the lake around 4.10pm today after receiving calls that a man in his 20s had gotten into trouble in the water.

“No formal identification has yet taken place. The man’s family has been informed and is being assisted by specialized officials.”

Lynne Lawrence said she heard a police plane for half an hour and later saw a helicopter land.

She said: “All I heard was that some young people had gone into the lake … the rescue workers were standing on the shore and looking at the lake.”

Dozens of messages have been sent to the South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service by local residents hoping for a safe outcome and sending their best wishes to the fire service.

The South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said at 5.30pm today: “Emergency services are on site at Lakeside, Doncaster.

“Around 4.20pm we received a call regarding concerns that a man had gotten into trouble in the water.

“Numerous agencies have responded and teams of specialists are doing everything they can to find him.

“Please avoid the area.”
