A MURDERER dubbed the “Black Widow” by prosecutors for killing her husband has died in prison, the Corrections Department said.
Susan Lee Russo was convicted of paying her boyfriend $100 for the 1994 murder of her husband, a Navy officer. She died of natural causes at the age of 67.
According to a press release, Russo resided at the Central California women’s facility in Chowchilla and has been receiving medical treatment at a local facility since Aug. 16.
She was jailed after paying her boyfriend $100 to kill her husband David so she could collect benefits as his surviving wife, the Merced Sun star reported.
Russo let the boyfriend and an accomplice into their home, where they shot her husband and disposed of the body while the couple’s children slept in another room, authorities said.
Prosecutors found that Russo was attempting to collect nearly $1 million on an insurance policy from her husband’s death.
On October 15, 1996, the Black Widow was committed to state prison, where she was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
