Based on indirect Kenya Barris .’s own family, “Black-ish” examines the daily life of an African-American upper-class family, the Johnsons. Many jokes revolve around the insecurities of Dre, the patriarch who is always uncertain about how to interact with Black culture as a privileged advertising executive. His wife Bow, a woman of two races, is a successful anesthesiologist, often accustomed to juggling different identities. Together, the couple tries to deal with personal and political issues while raising their five children in a changing world.
Over the seven seasons, “Black-ish” has undergone several changes, including Deon Cole joined the series, Dre and Bow nearly divorced, and daughter Zoey joined her own show, “Grown-ish.” However, the sitcom remains one of the most reliable mainstays of the comedy genre even as it deals with hot political issues. It looks like Season 8 will then portray some serious changes in the lives of the Johnsons, building up to what should be a heartfelt conclusion to “Black-ish.”
