Millions tune in to their live streams to watch their bizarre actions over and over again.

But what is the latest NPC trend on TikTok and why is it all about video games?

What is the NPC trending on TikTok Live?

There are a number of content creators who use TikTok Live to stream themselves and perform repetitive motions over and over again.

It’s based around gaming NPCs, who will often bounce in place and repeat the same actions as you interact with them.

These streamers try to keep their actions as consistent as possible, as if controlled by an AI, using the same movements, catchphrases, and tone of voice.

Viewers can text and emote them, and they perform various actions based on the images they send.

This often includes activities related to food.

For example, the viewer sends an ice cream and the streamer responds by pretending to lick it and saying “Oh ice cream, yum.”

YouTubers such as Cherry Crush TV and PinkDollReal are known for this.

How do content creators make money from NPC trending on TikTok Live?

The spectator has to use coins to buy different emotes or stickers and the creator gets a share of the earnings every time they use them on Steam.

While each of these emotes only costs pennies, the amount sent means it’s a decent source of income.

Multiple batches of stickers are often shipped at the same time. More expensive stickers will display filters, which can result in longer reactions.

Why is the NPC trending so popular on TikTok Live?

There are a few theories as to why the NPC trend is so popular with viewers on TikTok.

Certain actions include the streamer thanking the streamer for the viewer.

The repetitive actions are similar to video games, and people get mesmerized when they see a real person act like a video game character.

The trend also encourages high levels of viewer engagement and people like to see how the streamer reacts to things they say and broadcast.

Streamers perform reactions in quick succession, so there’s always something new to see on screen.

Some have also incorporated interesting interactions into the stream, such as popping popcorn with a hair straightener.
