Bitterly Cold Temperatures, Chances of Snow – CBS Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A first KDKA weather day is in effect due to persistent cold and snowy conditions.

At the moment: It is cold, windy and snowing. Today’s highs may not reach the 30s.

Alarm: Due to persistent cold and snow, we have extended the first warning weather day until this morning.

Deliberately: Today’s record low is 11 degrees. We have a chance to hit a record morning low Tuesday morning, with the record low being at 1pm. I forecast
a Tuesday morning low of 15.

Record-breaking snow fell in Pittsburgh yesterday, with 2.5 inches of snow falling at the National Weather Service offices in Moon.

The snow showers will continue back and forth today in the morning hours and into the afternoon hours.

I have snow chances until at least 3pm and maybe even longer.

Skies should clear as the sun sets today, with a chance of record-breaking low temperatures impacting our region Tuesday morning.

At the moment the record low on Tuesday morning is 13 degrees.

I forecast a daily low of 15°.

Today is going to be just a nasty day with wind showers in the brutal range all day. I expect to see single digit wind chills in most locations this morning for the morning commute.

Snow has continued overnight with patches of black ice possible this morning. Skies will be mostly cloudy, with rays of sunshine appearing between each of the snow squalls bringing short and intense snow showers before moving on.

While these snow showers were not originally caused by Lake Erie, the lake water amplifies the snow showers as they pick
in intensity as they glide over the “warm” lake water.

The reason for the unsettled weather will continue to shift to the northeast this afternoon, eventually ending the chance of snow at around
3:00 p.m. this afternoon.

Looking ahead, a warm front will move through the area on Wednesday morning, bringing some light rain showers. Our highs will rise from mid 40’s on Tuesday to near 70’s on Wednesday afternoon.

Warm weather will continue through Thursday, although light rain is expected throughout the day.

The rain will continue on Friday and temperatures will cool as cool air moves back into our area.
