Bill Gates opens up about Epstein’s friendship and affair claims as he reveals he’d like to find love on BBC show after divorce
BILL Gates has opened up about his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, claiming it sparked his divorce.
The billionaire tech titan, 67, admits in a new BBC interview he would have been “a lot wiser” if he had never spoken to the disgraced financier.
He also shares how he would like to find love again after splitting from his 27-year-old wife Melinda in 2021.
It has been suggested that Gates’ ties to disgraced financier Epstein were one of the reasons for the shock split.
The Microsoft founder has clarified that he has had “several dinners” with Epstein.
He told the Wall Street Journal in 2019 he had “no business relationship or friendship” with Epstein after pleading guilty to prostitution charges in 2008.
Gates added, “Every meeting I’ve been to with him has been with men.”
It was previously alleged that he sought marriage counseling from the pedophile at his New York mansion.
Sources also claim that Gates has met with Epstein numerous times since 2011, the New York Times reported.
The outlet, which spoke to people “familiar with the relationship,” said they’d met at Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse at least three times — staying “late late at night” at least once.
In BBC Two’s Amol Rajan interviews, which will air on Friday night, Gates said he is now “more cautious” about arranging meetings.
Gates added, “It’s tough, everyone you meet and says ‘okay, I’m going to dinner,’ how careful should you be?
“I’m certainly more careful now than when I did it, that was a long time ago.”
Gates admitted that anything that gives Epstein “credibility” is “kind of shameful.”
He and his former wife Melinda visited Epstein’s home in 2013, which she later said she “regretted.”
She told CBS in 2022, “I also met Jeffrey Epstein exactly once.
“I wanted to see who this man was and I regretted it from the second I walked in the door.
“He was hideous, evil personified. I had nightmares about it afterwards.”
The couple split in 2021 amid claims of an affair and speculation. Melinda had concerns about Gates’ connections to Epstein, who killed himself in prison in 2019 after being accused of running a child trafficking ring.
In late 2019, an unnamed engineer wrote a letter to Microsoft’s board of directors claiming to have had secret sexual encounters with founder Gates since 2000.
After an investigation began, Gates resigned as director in March 2020.
However, his team insisted the resignation was unrelated to the matter of the affair, which happened “almost 20 years ago” and “ended amicably”.
When questioned by Rajan about the affair and whom he felt sorry for, Gates said he didn’t think it was “relevant”.
He said: “They go back more than 20 years ago so I don’t think it’s relevant at this point.
“It’s been between me and my family for a long time.”
The business magnate also said there was “some regret” over his split from Melinda, whom he described as an “incredible person”.
But when asked if he would like to find love again, he replied: “Sure. I’m not a robot.”
Amol Rajan interviews Bill Gates airs tonight at 7.30pm on BBC Two.
