Bigbug Trailer: Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s Robot Comedy Hits Netflix February 11th

The director’s latest films “Amelie” and “Delicatessen” premiere on the streaming platform on February 11.

The director of “Amelie” and “A Very Long Engagement” is nominated for an Oscar Jean-Pierre Jeunet hasn’t released a feature film since “The Young and Prodigious TS Spivet” in 2013. But the director has always liked the visuals of films including the quirky “Delicatessen” and the gonzo “Alien Resurrection” that has become back with his latest movie,”Big bug. “The comedy about artificial intelligence is selling Netflix on February 11, and the streamer dropped the first trailer for the film. See below.

Here’s the oddly fitting synopsis, courtesy of Netflix:

By 2050, artificial intelligence is everywhere. So much so that humanity relies on it to satisfy every need and every desire – even the most secret and cruel…

In a quiet residential area, four cyborgs suddenly decide to take their master hostage at their home. Locked together, a family that doesn’t mix, an trespassing neighbor and her daring sex robot are now forced to copulate in an atmosphere of increasing hysteria! While outside, Yonyx, the latest generation of androids, is trying to take over. As the threat drew closer, humans looked away, envious and tearing each other apart under the bewildered gazes of the robots in their homes. Maybe they’re cyborgs with souls – or they don’t!

The director’s latest film “Micmacs” and “City of Lost Children” began filming in October 2020 amid the outbreak of the pandemic. Jeunet had a hard time starting this, but two years ago, now tell IndieWire, “I have a story that I want to make a movie about, but it is difficult to make money because it is a comedy with robots. So maybe it will be for Netflix, who knows. As a last resort, I would try Netflix”.

Although “Deliatessen” and “City of Lost Children” made Jeunet one of the most beloved films of the 90s, “Alien Resurrection” brought him closer to Hollywood in 1997. In the end, he returned to its creative roots for “Amelie,” one of the most beloved French films of all time, which earned five Academy Award nominations in 2002.

The “Bigbug” cast includes some of Jeunet’s favorite collaborators, including Dominique Pinon (who has acted in nearly all of the director’s films), as well as Elsa Zylberstein, Isabelle Nanty, Youssef Hajdi, Alban Lenoir and François Levantal.
