The rules have been relaxed during the pandemic and from 6 April the outdoor wedding – complete with inclement weather – here will stay in England and Wales after the public supported the change this.

A government consultation found that 96% were in favor of making the change permanent, while 93% were in favor of extending it to religious weddings.

Justice Minister Tom Pursglove said: “It is true that couples should have more choices in how to celebrate their special occasion.

“These reforms will allow couples to hold more personalized ceremonies and provide a welcome boost to the wedding sector.”

“It’s a welcome move towards more flexibility in respect of couples’ wishes,” said Jessie Westwood, a wedding planning specialist based in the Cotswolds.

“More and more people are always wanting to hold ceremonies outdoors.”
