Viola Davis – who herself won a Grammy Award and received an EGOT title – took to the stage to announce the nominees in the Best R&B Song category before revealing that Beyonce had won.
The camera panned around the room and viewers were dying to get a glimpse of Beyonce, who host Trevor Noah previously claimed was in attendance.
When it finally got back on stage, fans were surprised to see two men – Terius “The Dream” Gesteelde-Diamant and Nile Rodgers – holding the Grammy Award.
Terius said something inaudible into the mic to viewers at home, before adding, “Beyonce, thank you everyone.”

Trevor suddenly stepped in to explain, assuring viewers, “Beyonce is on her way.”
He claimed she was “stuck in traffic” and would be there shortly.
The former Daily Show host also announced, “Beyonce has now clinched the award for the most Grammys of all time.”
Finally, Nile stepped up to say a few words about working with Beyonce and more.

“And it was a take. I promise it. i played it It was a take. … It was exactly what I felt in my heart and I’m so happy to be working with you all.”
FANS REACT
However, fans didn’t buy into Beyonce’s apology and flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts.
One viewer wrote, “If you all think for a second that Beyoncé is going to be late in traffic,” with a half-frown.
Another tweeted: “Listen I don’t think she’s in traffic. I think Beyoncé is just like me and just late everywhere. Maybe she almost stayed home. Like me.”
A third added: “Beyonce, being late because of traffic really means, ‘If you think I’m going to be ahead of my time, you must be crazy.’
Another added, “Trevor Noah clearly loves Beyoncé and knows she doesn’t get in the way in the building.”
Another fan tweeted, “Beyonce isn’t stuck in traffic.”
Others seemed to find it funny, with one writing: “Beyoncé, late to the Grammys, on her night she’s going to make history. Relatable Queen. I love it.”
OK BEY!
While Beyonce was late to the party on Music’s Biggest Night, she bestowed an eye on fans the night before.
She and her superstar friend Adele were spotted out and about before the Grammys rocked some stunning fashions.
Beyonce wore a futuristic white outfit during a showbiz brunch, where she was joined by model Winnie Harlow.
Adele, meanwhile, wrapped up the tenth weekend of her stay in Las Vegas.
During the show, she and chef Gordon Ramsay shared a cheeky and shocking hickey.
He wrote on social media: “Hello… It’s an amazing show from @adele tonight!
“Breathtaking performance. Congratulations.”
She was nominated for seven awards ahead of the LA ceremony, compared to 41-time Grammy winner Beyonce, who topped the list with nine.

They were both nominated for Best Album, Best Song and Best Record of the Year.
Beyonce was acclaimed for her album Renaissance and lead single Break My Soul, while Adele was nominated for album 30 and single Easy On Me.
