It was her first major success ever – and it came on home soil at Wembley Stadium.
And Mead was absolutely crucial to the glory with her six goals and five assists.
Mead is currently on crutches after tearing her cruciate ligament for Arsenal last month.
She was joined by her partner and team-mate Vivianne Miedema at today’s awards ceremony at MediaCity in Salford – while many of the England squad and manager Sarina Wiegman were also in attendance.
Mead bested fellow nominees gymnast Jessica Gadirova, curler Eve Muirhead, snooker star Ronnie O’Sullivan, England cricketer Ben Stokes and athlete Jake Wightman to be crowned the SPOTY Champion.
Stokes was second and Muirhead was third in the public vote.
But it was Arsenal striker Mead who succeeded Emma Raducanu with the gong honored by Beeb at the gala.
