ONE of the survivors of the catastrophic 2015 Berkeley balcony collapse is now dead.
Aoife Beary, 27, from Blackrock, south Dublin, survived the crash that killed six of her friends after the balcony of a California apartment complex collapsed.
Miss Beary, along with six other students, suffered life-changing injuries following the tragedy.
A group of students, most of whom are in the US on J-1 summer work visas, celebrated Miss Beary’s 21st birthday at a party held at the Library Gardens apartment complex on June 16, 2016. 2015.
Ms. Beary suffered a severe traumatic brain injury in the fall and subsequently had open heart surgery.
She suffered multiple injuries, including broken bones and torn organs.
After the accident, she received treatment and rehabilitation at hospitals in California and Dublin.
In recent years, Ms. Beary has been studying at Oxford Brookes University in the UK.
She died at Beaumont hospital in Dublin on Saturday night, after suffering a stroke on Wednesday.
