Pioneering and wayward civil rights attorney Ben Crump is the focus of an upcoming biographical documentary entitled ” Civil. release this June, Civil Award-winning filmmaker Nadia Hallgren is directing. black Creator Kenya Barris produced the documentary.

Hallgren is best known as the filmmaker behind the Michelle Obama documentary Will. Oscar winner Roger Ross Williams is also producing the film alongside Hallgren and Lauren Cioffi. The project’s executive producers include Erynn Sampson, Matthew Carnahan and Geoff Martz.

According to Shadow and Act, the film will open the upcoming 2022 American Black Film Festival, which returns this year as a hybrid festival offering both in-person and virtual programming.

Netflix’s upcoming social and cultural documentary will be released on the platform on June 19, which is fitting given that Juneteenth is a major holiday in the United States. Netflix projects debut at 12:00 p.m. PT / 3:00 p.m. ET.

Netflix doesn’t normally release projects on Sundays, but in this case, June 16 is an ideal day to release a documentary about Ben Crump, a man who has made it his mission to help black people facing injustices across the country are becoming cases for the families of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and countless others.
