Filming locations of “Before We Die”.

The original Before We Die was set in Sweden, but the Channel 4 version was mostly shot in the UK, with some scenes from the first season also being shot in Belgium.

Also in the second season, the show will mainly take place in Bristol, with further scenes being shot in Belgium and Spain.

Bristol

Eagle Eye Drama, the creative group behind Before We Die, shot most of the show in Bristol.

The show’s first season was filmed in September 2020 at locations including Stokes Croft, Clifton, Brandon Hill Park, York Road, Clarence Road and The Horsefair.

Executive producer Jo McGrath said, “We wanted to set it in a port town because that’s important to the story of the drug trade.”

“We were looking for something a little less familiar and Bristol is one of those cities that has actually been used a lot as a location for filming, but you wouldn’t notice because a lot of shows are filmed there, but they aren’t.” Sentence There.”

She added, “Bristol is such an interesting city visually and editorially it suited our storyline.”

Executive producer Walter Iuzzolino also spoke radio times about filming in Bristol and said: “We just thought it was so interesting, sort of European with all that Renaissance grandeur and the sea and the beautiful posh Notting Hill village of Clifton.”

“It was a very interesting stage for us to direct such a drama, so for us, to be honest, it was an exciting thing.”

As Hannah and her castmates return to action for Season 2 of Before We Die, many of the filming locations from the first six episodes will serve as backdrops for the new episodes.

Before We Die Season 2 begins Sunday 25 June at 9pm on Channel 4, with episodes continuing at the same time each night.

Spain

At the end of the first season, Christian, Hannah’s son, and his girlfriend Bianca, who also happens to be part of the Mimica family, fled to Costa Rica.

The scenes set in Costa Rica were actually filmed in Almeria, a city in southern Spain.

Issy Knopfler, who plays Bianca Mimica, revealed how she and Patrick Gibson, who plays Christian, had to look like runaways who’ve been out in the sun for a while.

She told Channel 4: “We landed in the middle of the night and Paddy and I were pale, even though we’d supposedly lived in Costa Rica for three months.”

“I remember standing in my bathing suit at half past midnight in southern Spain getting a tan from people I had just met knowing Paddy was in the next room experiencing the same thing.”

“Pretty glamorous!”

Belgium

Additional filming for the first season of “Before We Die” took place in Belgium and it is believed that the creators of the series did the same for the new episodes as well.

The scenes, which in the first part mainly revolved around drug trafficking, were filmed in Brussels.

Director Jan Matthys said: “For me, part of the challenge was balancing Belgium with the other scenes in Bristol – which was interesting.”

“We have become specialists in ‘anglicizing’ Belgium.

“It was simple things like putting double yellow lines on the roads that immediately made it Bristol.”

“I love the magic of my craft and this was a great way to bring the series to life.”
