BCCI is considering starting IPL 2022 from March 27

In a new development, Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) is considering starting the 14th season of Indian Premier League (IPL) one week ahead of the original plan.

According to a report published in CricBuzz, the world’s most lucrative T20 competition could start on March 27. The development comes after leading BCCI met with franchise owners in Mumbai on Wednesday. Saturday, January 22.

The meeting was attended by all the owners, including the Ambani family, Shah Rukh Khan, N Srinivasan, Parth Jindal, PBKS co-owners, Preity Zinta and the promoters of the new franchise – Ahmedabad and Lucknow. The owners have announced that the 14th season will begin March 27 and will culminate in the last week of May,

BCCI is keen to hold the upcoming edition in India, with Maharashtra being the most favorable option. Mumbai has three international stadiums of its own. With its proximity to Pune, top-tau confidently hosts the competition in these four locations.

However, the final decision on the same will be made after taking into account Maharashtra’s COVID-19 situation on 20th February.

South Africa emerges as a likely alternative location for IPL 2022

Meanwhile, South Africa has emerged as a possible alternative venue to host the competition should the COVID-19 situation in India force the BCCI to move the tournament elsewhere.

Since the start of the pandemic, BCCI has hosted 1.5 of the two completed seasons in the United Arab Emirates. However, considering the heavy fog factor that affected last year’s matches at the IPL and the subsequent T20 World Cup, the owners are not in favor of returning the tournament to the desert.

South Africa had previously hosted the 2009 T20 tournament. IT turned out to be a huge success thanks to the brilliant pitches and presence of the large Asian community at Rainbow Nation.

“If IPL 2022 doesn’t take place in India because of COVID-19 then the venue will be South Africa.” – According to TOI

Meanwhile, BCCI has also informed the holders that the grand auction, scheduled for February 12 and 13, will not be postponed. However, with the uncertainty of the final location, it will be interesting to see how the franchises proceed to build their faction. BCCI is considering starting IPL 2022 from March 27
