SWEDISH athlete Jesper Hellstrom made his best salmon impression in Wednesday’s triple jump final at the European Championships in Germany.
The 27-year-old may not have won a medal, but he was one of the big talks at the Olympic Stadium.
Hellstrom, a surprise finalist, narrowly qualified after finishing last with a jump of 16.07 meters.
He started with a cautious first jump of 16:02 before comedically getting it all wrong on the second attempt.
After overturning, Hellstrom lost his balance and eventually dove headfirst into the sand.
The Swede put on his best salmon and seal diving impression and could be seen laughing during his jump as he let the crowd down.
A third jump took him to 16.23 meters, but it wasn’t enough to make the cut as he finished the final in tenth place.
After the finale of his hilarious second jump, Hellstrom joked, “I thought right after, ‘I wonder if there’s going to be any funny pictures of this.'”
It wasn’t just Hellstrom who found the funny side, as BBC viewers loved it as they commented on his jump on social media.
One user tweeted, “Jesper Hellstrom is my new favorite athlete at these games.”
