A hostage situation is reportedly developing at a Baymont by Windham hotel, with a suspect reportedly barricading a victim inside.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the suspect in the incident is Thomas Cromwell, an escaped convict from River City Correctional Center.
Mason Police and SWAT teams began responding to the scene at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Hamilton County lawmakers reportedly had a warrant out for the suspect’s arrest and received information that he was staying at the hotel.
They called for each other’s help as he barricaded himself inside the hotel, WLWT reports.
The outlet also reports that the man inside is responsive to police but not cooperating.
Lieutenant Jeff Burson said this could take “a considerable amount of time”.
Guests were evacuated from the hotel.
At least one person appears to be in one of the hotel rooms and “occasionally looks out the window.”
Police also could not confirm whether Cromwell is armed.
Several police units are on site.
No injuries are currently reported.
A witness who was at the hotel when the situation began told WLWT that he was “really scared” and “stormed out the door” as he was being evacuated by police.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” he said.
Baymont by Wyndham Mason is located near Kings Island Amusement Park.
There are several other hotels in the immediate area.
