Barcelona are planning a sensational transfer for Marco Asensio, with the Real Madrid star still having one year left on his contract at the Bernabeu

BARCELONA are reportedly hoping to land Marco Asensio from bitter rivals Real Madrid as the Spanish star’s contract expires next summer.

The Catalan giants are looking to continue their rebuilding under manager Xavi after a summer spending spree.

Barca snapped up players like Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde, Raphinha and Franck Kessie.

And according to Mundo Deportivo, Xavi and Co. would like to sign the soon-to-be-expired Real ace Asensio as the next newcomer.

Asensio, 26, is out of contract at the Bernabeu next summer and could leave on a free transfer.

The report goes on to say that Barca could decide to act if Asensio’s contract situation is the same before the winter transfer window.

Barca may be able to bring Asensio in January for a lower fee or wait until the summer to get him for free.

Reinforcing Xavi’s side, Asensio’s agent Jorge Mendes has a good relationship with club president Joan Laporta.

Barca have made a strong start to the LaLiga season.

They are still unbeaten after six games played and are just two points behind Spanish champions Real.

Barca emerged 3-0 winners in the last league game.

Lewandowski scored a brace and Memphis Depay the other in the win over Elche.
