Barcelona are planning a huge midfield swap with Inter Milan as both clubs try to sort out financial issues

BARCELONA and Inter Milan are reportedly linked in a swap deal involving midfielders Franck Kessie and Marcelo Brozovic.

The move was already planned in January but didn’t materialize as Kessie didn’t want to leave the Nou Camp.

According to SPORT, however, the like-for-like swap still has substance in midfield and is an enticing possibility due to specific factors for both sides.

Inter Milan’s technical director reportedly met with Barcelona officials last week to discuss the possibility of a swap deal.

Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claim both midfielders are worth around £28million, a factor that would make a potential swap relatively easy.

Brozovic, 30, joined Inter from Dinamo Zagreb in 2015 and has made 253 appearances for the club.

Despite some fine performances this season, it still looked set for Brozovic to leave Inter in the summer amid rising tensions.

That’s because the defensive midfielder had to be separated from team-mate Andre Onana in training this week.

The Croatian star is seen as a potential replacement for Sergio Busquets in Barcelona’s midfield.

Moreover, Kessie has been on Inter’s wish list since he joined Barcelona on a free transfer from AC Milan last summer.

And ex-Inter boss Antonio Conte wanted to bring him to Tottenham in January.

Despite Kessie’s impressive form in the second half of this season, the club have refused to rule out his sale due to the ongoing economic situation.

The Catalans’ finances are in grave jeopardy with skyrocketing debt expected to reach £1.3bn.

Barca need to get their finances in order again this summer in order to refine Xavi’s squad and stay competitive next season.
