But acc Fabrizio Romanoa move for Rudiger now seems unlikely as the Catalan club have reached an agreement with Araujo.
The Uruguayan’s new contract reportedly includes a release clause and is expected to last until June 2026.
Barcelona also plan to lure Rudiger’s teammate Andreas Christensen to the Nou Camp on a free transfer this summer.
Both have been unable to sign new contracts at Stamford Bridge since Chelsea were sanctioned by the British government.
A double attack from the Blues defense hasn’t been ruled out but Barcelona are reportedly less keen on Rudiger as Christensen will partner Araujo in defense next season.
Rudiger’s expiring contract at Chelsea is currently bringing in £100,000-a-week but the defender was reportedly demanding more than double that before sanctions hit.
The Germany international is enjoying his best season in the Chelsea shirt under Tuchel this season.
Despite being impressive in defence, he has contributed four goals and four assists in all competitions.
