BROKE Ex-billionaire James Stunt is in court with his father at odds over who owns a million-dollar Dutch painting.
Art and bullion dealer Stunt was hoping the sale of The Cheeke Sisters, a 17th-century masterpiece by Sir Anthony Van Dyke, could help him bail out.
F1 heiress Petra Ecclestone’s ex-husband was declared bankrupt in June 2019 with debts of more than £5million.
Before his 2018 divorce battle over a fortune of £5.5 billion, he faced claims from his solicitor, a gambling company and former bodyguard.
Trustees Ian Defty and Adrian Hyde have been appointed.
Now Geoffrey Lee Stunt is suing her, saying the picture belongs to him.
The trustees are opposing his action in the London High Court, saying James Stunt is “the rightful owner of the painting”.
His financial affairs have been entrusted to trustees whose job it is to ensure that his assets are found and his debts paid off as much as possible.
They claim in the High Court in London that James is “the rightful owner”.
A hearing should be scheduled.
