Avoid going under a quarter of a tank of gas – CBS Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Gas prices are beginning to stabilize, according to the AAA.
In the Pittsburgh area, gasoline costs about $4.31 per gallon. AAA said that was about 5 to 10 cents down from last week.

As more people travel, prices are expected to increase with higher demands in the summer. The ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine could also affect prices.

The travel agency recommends filling up at a quarter of the tank. You’ve seen an increase in calls for people running out of gas lately.
“If you drive your vehicle on less than a quarter of a tank of gas, you reach the point where you begin to compromise the mechanical aspects of your car. The fuel pump, for example,” said Jim Garrity, director of public affairs for AAA East Central.

To save fuel, AAA recommends combining trips, carpooling, using the more economical car in the household and reducing speed. Acceleration burns gas less efficiently.
